Common questions about flying with Ryanair

Before you book, answer questions fellow travelers have asked about this airline. Answered by our expert panel of travel advisors.

Yes. Ryanair allows you to change the date, time or route of your booking online up to 2.5 hours before scheduled departure. If you rebook, you’ll need to pay any fare difference plus applicable Ryanair fees (for baggage, seat selection or extras). We can manage this for you, ensuring you see the full cost before you pay, so you avoid unexpected charges!
Ryanair requires online check‑in (either via their website or app). If you miss check‑in or arrive without a boarding pass, the airline may charge you a check‑in/boarding‑pass re‑issue fee (historically up to €55, though this can vary by airport). Booking with us means we send reminders and check your flight’s rules in advance, so you don’t risk those last-minute fees.
Yes. You can add hold baggage (for example 10 kg, 20 kg or more depending on route) when booking or later. If you bring oversized luggage or special items (sports equipment, musical instruments, etc.), extra charges apply and you must declare them when booking. We can help you choose the right baggage allowance option at booking, which often costs less than paying at the airport.
Yes. Ryanair separates fare from extras: reserved seats, extra‑legroom seats, priority boarding, extra cabin baggage, etc., all cost extra. The price depends on route, seat type and timing. When you book with us, we show you all available extras and fees, so you know exactly what you pay for, avoiding surprise add‑ons at the airport.
Ryanair lets you change passenger details or names (with conditions). Though this is treated as a change and may carry a fee. If you’re unsure, we can manage this for you when you book to make sure changes are done properly and with full awareness of any charges.
Because Ryanair fares often rise closer to departure, booking early (several weeks or months ahead) almost always gives you access to lower prices. However, if your plans are flexible, last-minute tickets or off‑peak mid‑week flights can still offer good deals. We monitor all Ryanair flight deals and can help you seize value fares when they appear.

Classes & Seat Options on Ryanair

Basic / Economy

Basic Fare is a minimum fare sold by Ryanair, which comprises the cheapest ticket but with only a few additional features. In this fare, one small cabin bag, which needs to be placed under the seat, is permitted. They do not include seat choice and baggage. At the check-in, you are allocated an assigned seat randomly unless you reserve a seat payment.

With Basic Fare and no additional costs, standard seat pitch of Ryanair. This is approximately an industry-average legroom, restricted recline and no promised seat selection are to be expected. However, if you want to upgrade to something more comfortable or more flexible, then upgrading is the choice to make! But, that is where the extra seat options come in, which you can find more down below.

Regular, Plus & Family Plus

Ryanair flights have mid-tier bundles known as Regular Fare plus, Plus and Family plus which provide you with more than the minimum. For example, Regular Fare usually has two cabin bags, one carry-on bag under the seat and 10 kg bag on top, and priority boarding.

The Plus bundle adds comfort for those carrying luggage. It comes with a 20kg checked bag, paid seat and upgrades as an option, providing you with greater ability to choose your seat. Families who are travelling together enjoy Family Plus that provides seat reservation for children under 12 years old and share check-in baggage for the group.

These packages fall in the mid-range range: better baggage and flexibility than Basic. But none of the additional benefits of premium upgrades.

Flexi Plus / Time‑Saver / Priority

For travellers seeking comfort, convenience or flexibility, Ryanair’s Flexi Plus, Time‑Saver, and Priority & Extra Legroom options are the best choices. These bundles typically include reserved seating, priority boarding, fast‑track or security‑lane access, and more generous baggage allowances depending on the package.

With upgrades you can choose Ryanair seats such as extra legroom, exit‑row or front‑row seats, which offer noticeably more space and comfort, especially on longer flights. There is also extra legroom or exit-row seats are usually provided with overhead locker access, rather than underneath-seat access. So, you do not have to store their bags under their feet.

The upgrade prices are dependent on routes, seat position, and demand. The minimum additional price is the reserved standard, which is a higher price, and front-row or extra-legroom seats are even more expensive.

Seat Selection & Optional Upgrades (Add‑ons)

Regardless of your fare bundle, Ryanair lets you opt for seat selection as an add‑on. You can pay at booking or later to reserve a specific seat instead of receiving a random one.

You can buy additional legroom or front-row exit-row seats at an additional charge. These options are often labelled “extra legroom” or “priority seat” and depend on route and seat availability.

By booking Ryanair flights with us we will present you with a live seat booking layout, upgrade fees and allow you to select a seat that fits your budget, comfort and convenience selections. This guidance prevents you from paying for unnecessary extras or ending up with cramped standard seating.

What Ryanair Doesn’t Offer

Travellers should understand that there is no business class or fancy cabin on any of the Ryanair flights. There is no distinction between passengers in terms of the type of cabin they are in which is all economy; the only difference is in the optional add-ons like choice of seat, extra legroom seat or baggage/priority. With smart upgrades and bundles, you can often get a more comfortable, flexible ride. Especially if you value space or extra luggage.

Baggage, Check-in & Extras | What you need to know

Ryanair baggage allowance

The standard policy of Ryanair includes one small personal bag, which should be able to be under the seat (under 40 x 30 x 20cm). In case you wish to bring along a larger cabin bag, then you need to buy the Priority and 2 Cabin Bags option. This allows you to bring one second bag of cabin baggage with a size of 55 x 40 x 20cm, with a weight capacity of 10kg. It is cheaper to buy it online than at the airport. This list is the Ryanair basic allowance you will see when you make your bookings. But, we always verify your specific allowance on the route you are taking.

Cabin / hand luggage rules

Ryanair’s hand luggage allowance normally means that only the small personal bag is included with the most basic fares. Cabin bags in overhead-lockers are not permitted unless they include Priority or 2 Cabin Bags or some fare packages. Liquids shall be contained in 100ml containers in one clear bag, and additional batteries can be carried in cabin baggage. If you’re unsure which allowance applies, we’ll confirm it when we book so you avoid surprises at the gate.

Online check-in

We encourage online check-in. You can book a designated seat in advance and choose the day 60 days before travelling or you can book online and check-in 24 hours before flight and check out 2 hours before departure. If you miss online check-in, you can still get on the plane at the airport, but you will have to pay fees and follow the desk opening times. Always check in online and get your boarding pass before you go.

Airport check-in desks & bag drop times

Desk opening times vary by airport, but Ryanair’s desks usually open no later than 2 hours before departure and close 40 minutes before the flight. Failure to check in on time may result in the refusal to board the plane or additional charges and therefore when we book, we ensure that we check the airport timings of your particular departure. If you have any concerns before booking your flight, please contact us.

Extras: priority boarding, family seating, pets & special assistance

Ryanair also offers a variety of extras: Priority and Fast Track (priority boarding and second cabin bag), assigned family seating (younger passengers between 2-11 years old are free to choose a seat next to a paying adult), and flexible options (such as Flexi/Flexi Plus). Pets are prohibited in the board except certified guide dogs and emotional support animals are not acceptable. In case of wheelchair or special needs, Ryanair needs to be notified and the documentation made in advance we do this on behalf of you during booking.

Common Ryanair fees (seat selection, baggage, changes)

Standard charges will be cash for booked seats (depends on the seat location), additional leg-room or front seats, checked baggage (per item per flight), airport check-in charges (when you do not use online check-in), and change or cancellation charges, which are dependent upon the type of fare. Prices are dependent on route and demands. Purchasing baggage and seat reservation at the time of booking is virtually less expensive than paying at the airport. We compare the entire price at the time of booking hence no hidden charges.

How to Book with Ryanair

Ryanair Flights Deal & How to Get the Best Price

Ryanair regularly publishes low airfares and seasonal offers to customers interested in low cost breaks or city hop deals. You are able to find these deals on our website, on this page! The most viable approach is to remain flexible in terms of dates since the prices tend to be low mid-week and during the days other than the peak holiday seasons. Mostly on Tuesday to Thursday.

Booking early helps a lot. It is recommended that short-haul travelers should book 4 to 8 weeks ahead to get the lowest fares. Prices also tend to increase as the departure date gets closer, and therefore, these two aspects lead to the risk of paying more money or not finding a seat because the flight is sold out. Even moving your trip a day or two will lead to a significant reduction in the fare.

When you request us to book Ryanair flights, we would cross compare all Ryanair flights offers and settle on the one that offers balanced price and comfort. So, that you save your money.
